About Mary

From early childhood, Mary and her sister always dreamt of having long hair. As they were unable to take care of it, their mother made them cut their hair in a pixie and told them that this would be the standard until they learned how to care for longer hair.
In order to avoid the dreaded pixie cut, Mary and her sister soon figured out how to comb each other’s hair, which is an experience she credits for the beginnings of her interest in hairdressing.
Mary joined beauty school straight out of high school, and worked at a salon in Logan, Utah for a year, before moving to Salt Lake City to train and work at House of Sherman.
After her training was completed, Mary worked at their main salon for three years, learning how to do textured hair from Douglas Wright. She found that she enjoyed working with all textures of hair, and wanted to learn as much as she possible could.
At the same time, Mary took business classes at Salt Lake Community College and went on to work at a Trolly Square salon for three years before reuniting with Douglas Wright. She worked under him at his Ebony & Ivory salon in Salt Lake City for about five years, before opening her own salon (Creative Essence) with Maggie Handy.
Several years later, Mary moved to Washington State, working in Yelm and Lacey until she opened Artistic Creations at the Hair Place in Rainier.
She loves doing hair and still takes classes, as there is so much to learn and industry trends keep evolving.
Mary loves meeting people and feels blessed that her career has made it possible for her to meet many great and wonderful people along the way. People that she would have never met, if she had taken a different path.
Mary looks forward to welcome you and help you turn your hair into an artistic creation!
